Cardigans. We (and our grandmas) gotta love ’em. They’re versatile, functional, and if properly styled, fashionable. And after living in San Francisco for the last 6 years, I’ve added “necessary” to the list. Even on a warm spring day like today, you’re most likely going to need an extra layer.
But let’s be honest, cardigans can be considered a bit “vanilla.” So how can we add some spice, some zest, some actual flavor to the mix?
The answer is texture! Mixing and matching fabrics is the easiest way to achieve an effortlessly chic cardigan combination. For example, cotton on cotton can sometimes fall flat (a.k.a vanilla). Simply incorporating a layer of silk, lace, or fabric of your choice will add interest and sophistication to your ensemble. In this case, I’ve paired a thin, ribbed cardigan with an eyelet peplum top — both pretty, textured pieces on their own but even more perfect when paired!
I’ve included links to a few of my favorite cardigans available, as well as bottom layer pieces you can use to mix and match your textured look. I’m loving this fringe, cashmere cardigan paired with this chambray tank top and a combination of this gingham cardigan and white pleated camisole. See the rest of my picks below!
