Let’s just say it’s been tough getting back into the “swing” of things. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. As you likely know from previous posts, Neema and I went to Maui to celebrate my 30th birthday. While I’m so grateful for the seven days we spent there, any amount of time in paradise is just never enough. On our last trip to Maui we stayed in Lahaina but this time we were excited to explore the south shore of the island, Wailea. We loved both areas but Wailea definitely offered more of a tranquil environment — we were into it. While I’ll be sharing my must eat, drink, and see recommendations in a later post, I wanted to kick off my Hawaii posts with one of our favorite days — the first day.
Trust me, there were a lot of “best” days but there’s something special about exploring uncharted (by us anyway), tropical grounds, taking that first sip of a mai tai, and long last, sinking your toes into the warm sand. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Upon arriving at the hotel, we cheers’d to a relaxing week ahead a la the bottle of birthday bubbly Neema surprised me with, slipped into our bathing suits, and set out to venture the grounds — aka– mission to find the swim-up bar. It was the last day of my 20’s — we wanted to live it up! Before dipping into the pool we happened upon this hammock with a view. The perfect spot to escape the sun, read a book, and sleep off the jet lag.
We eventually found the swim-up bar…the mai tais…and one incredibly colorful sunset. While sunrises are generally my favorite, Hawaiin sunsets take the cake. Speaking of food, we topped off the night by going to one of the most recommended places (by you guys!), Monkeypod. We are somewhat
ashamed proud to say we ate there four times over the course of seven days. Between the live music, excellent food, Maui-famous mai tais and pies — what more could you need? The next day followed with more of the same — which was just what we wanted…
Thanks so much again for all of the birthday love. It made my day, trip, and year extra special!
Who else was excited when one piece bathing suits made their most recent comeback? Same! I’ve always admired 50’s fashion and this swimsuit silhouette was no exception. My favorite swim look tends to steer towards a vintage Jacky O or Audrey Hepburn silhouette. As you may have seen on Instagram, this Kate Spade was one of my favorites — pink, scalloped, with a cute cutout (and it also comes in black!) Her entire swim line is simple and chic — see here and here. The swimsuit I’m wearing above is J.Crew and another absolute favorite — black, off the shoulder, with polk dots! A total classic and honestly, what’s more flattering than a black swimsuit? And if you’re not into polka dots this solid black Trina Turk OTS suit is also a great option.
I’m rounding up my favorite one piece suits below — many of them are far cheaper than most two pieces! Which one is your favorite?
