Let’s be honest, at first glance the Golden Gate Bridge has it all. From it’s iconic pictures and roles in movies, to the birthday party San Francisco throws in its honor each year, that bridge is the shining star of the City. But it’s the effortless beauty of the Golden Gate’s more conservative sister, the Bay Bridge, that lures me in.
The Bay Bridge doesn’t need a coat of playful red paint to feel seen. Its understated gray steel and twinkling downtown city-scape is unsuspectingly sexy. The kind of sexy that isn’t trying too hard. It’s sophisticated — and sophistication is sexy.
It’s one of my favorite areas to jumpstart a night out with girlfriends or a dinner date night with my husband. It’s lined by restaurants with ocean views and delicious happy hour menus. Plus, you’re close to the Ferry Building and local art installations that illuminate as the sun sets. A few of my favorite spots in the area include Waterbar, Chaya, and Hard Water.
All this talk has me in the mood for a half-priced martini and an ocean view. Who’s with me?!
I strive for personal style that mimics that of the Bay Bridge — simple and understated, yet eye-catchingly chic. To me, a turtleneck of any kind embodies that sentiment. Overtime, you’ll see, I have quite the obsession — ahem — I mean collection. Now that sweater weather is here, I’ve been gravitating towards cozier turtleneck options with an oversized fit.
For under $60, this sweater has it all and comes in a variety of colors. I chose gray to keep it versatile. Though I dressed it up with black jeans and booties, I also love pairing it with white jeans for an easy daytime look. As it’s “oversized”, I suggest ordering down a size.
I’ve wrangled up a few of my top picks for similar looks under $100.
