THE OUR STORY
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I hope you’re spending the day with your significant other or Galentine ladies. Today, I’m excited to change things up a bit and let my better half do all of the talking (for once). 🙂 If you’ve been following along from the beginning then you may know how much I love storytelling and sometimes include “The Story” of my experiences in my posts. Well, in the spirit of romance, I thought I’d let Neema tell “Our Story”!
He actually penned the below story right after our engagement in 2013. It will always hold a special place in my heart. xo
By: Neema Yazdani
The tale of Megan and Neema began in a small, modest, northeast Louisiana town. Neema had been working at a local television station for several years as a sports reporter. One day, the News Director called him in to her office and asked him to take a look at a number of resume tapes for potential reporter candidates. He scanned through a few of the tapes but one reporter caught his eye. After a few seconds, he looked over to the news director and winked, “I think this is the one.”
Fast-forward four months.
Neema had just finished the busiest day of the sports year…National Signing Day. He strolled into the newsroom, looking to chat with one of the local news reporters when he noticed someone he had never seen before.
“You must be new,” he said. “What’s your name?”
He reached over to shake the young lady’s hand and instantly felt that he had known her from somewhere.
“The tape! It’s the girl from the resume tape!” he thought to himself.
They stood there, exchanging stories for the next hour. She laughed…he blushed…they instantly connected. Word spread quickly, Neema Yazdani had his eye on morning reporter, Megan Cross.
After consulting with several key sources, Neema methodically courted Megan for the next month. As the new girl in town, Neema made sure Megan was invited to all social affairs. If she came to his place for a get-together, the refrigerator was stocked with her signature cocktail. When she wasn’t feeling well, he “just happened” to grab an extra chicken salad sandwich (her favorite) from the deli. Neema would think of anything he could possibly do to spend time with her…and it worked.
A month later they went on their first date. Six months after that, he walked into the News Director’s office and resigned. 30 seconds later, she did the same. They packed up his SUV with all of their belongings and headed for California!
Both Megan and Neema decided to change careers and were hired at tech companies. They moved to San Francisco and that’s where they’ve lived for the last three and a half years. They’ve been fortunate to enjoy the beautiful mountains of Lake Tahoe, the picturesque beaches of Carmel, and the energy of San Francisco.
On November 9th, 2013, Neema asked Megan to be his wife…she tearfully agreed.
