Living in the city for so long, I often look forward to our weekend getaways. One of our favorite places to escape to is Lake Tahoe. President’s Day weekend we made the drive at night and woke up to the most spectacular snowfall. It took me back to last year’s snowstorm “Story” — one of my favorite Tahoe memories. While I do love to ski, some of my favorite moments happen off of the slopes.
It’s a peaceful morning walk along the deserted shoreline. It’s late night board games with our favorite friends. It’s the first aprés ski sip of my spiked hot chocolate. And while I normally enjoy them at the ski lodge, my bestie, Lily, introduced me to a homemade, chocolatey cocktail no bartender can compete with. Given we have a few more weeks of winter, I thought I’d share! The good news — it’s
calorie free as easy as it is delicious.
HOMEMADE (SPIKED) HOT CHOCOLATE
- 2 large Lindt Milk Chocolate bars
- 1/2 large Lindt Dark Chocolate bar
- 2 cups of whole milk
- 1 shot of Baileys Irish Cream (optional)
- garnish options: marshmallows, mint leaves, peppermint, whipped cream
Combine all chocolate ingredients and milk into a sauce pan on low heat. Stir until melted. If too thick, add more milk until desired consistency. Divide into four mugs, garnish, and enjoy!
P.S. My Bernardo maxi coat (now under $100) is one of the most flattering winter coats I’ve seen and perfect for the mountains! Find it and similar options below!
