Blazers have been a consistent part of my wardrobe since my early days of high school. Back home in Kentucky, my girlfriends and I would drive 45 minutes to the nearest Limited (R.I.P.) and Express stores and without a doubt, walk away with a new blazer, tailored skirt, or high waisted pair of trousers. Yes, we dressed like we were going into the corporate workplace at age 15…
(Typing this has me wondering if my style has evolved as much as I thought over the years? ? I’ll reflect on that lying in bed past 11pm thinking all the deep thoughts instead of sleeping like I’m supposed to. For now…let’s take a look at this boyfriend blazer.)
If you haven’t noticed, boyfriend blazers are everywhere this fall. While my 15-year-old self may have loved them to make her feel like the reporter she always wanted to be, my 30-year-old self appreciates them for their polished look and versatility. Unlike traditional blazers, the boyfriend blazers are less tailored around the waist, typically sport one button, and drop just below the hips.
I was drawn to this plaid Halogen blazer not only because of the must-have fall pattern, but because of the chic collarless neckline. The length is perfect for average height girls like myself but also comes in a petite version for ladies below 5’4. It’ll cost you $150, which I feel is very reasonable for a versatile piece like this.
When wearing something less formfitting on top, I always like to keep my pants or skirts on the tailored side. These Halogen (loving their fall collection, clearly!) knit leggings do the trick for “play” but love pairing this blazer with a cropped black pant or skinny jeans for the office.
If you’re looking for more options – this Banana Republic silk boyfriend blazer looks a lot more expensive than just $150. The same goes for this velvet Express option at $120. For under $100 you can score this Topshop solid blazer which comes in several colors, or, this black Express blazer that will surely go with everything. Looking to splurge? I’m so in love with the festive colors of this velvet Theory jacket and Laveer belted option!
